The daughter of a photographer and a painter, Marta Lee was born in Idaho, and raised in Washington, before moving to Tennessee at age ten. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville in 2014, where she began as a printmaker before switching her focus to painting. She has shown internationally in London, Los Angeles, Nashville, and Chicago. Her paintings were featured in the first quarterly issue of the literary collection The Stirring. She was an exchange fellow at the Royal College of Art, London, in 2017.
She is currently pursuing her Master of Fine Arts in Painting at The University of Texas Austin. This work is now on view in If Happy Little Bluebirds Fly at the Abrons Arts Center in the Lower East Side, New York. The show runs March 3 to April 8, with an opening reception on March 14 from 6-8pm. Marta Lee will be performing a set of new songs at the opening. More of her work can be found at martaleeart.com
